22nd Annual Children’s Wish Foundation Car Rally

Results are in…

The car rally results are in and we made an improvement from last year. Hurray!!!

We finished 47th out of 58 cars, which means we were 12th from the bottom. Last year we were 4th from the bottom so we are making strides every year.

During this journey on the rally you needed to complete a crossword puzzle (answers are landmarks on route) and questions pertaining to clues found along the way. Our crossword scores were 20 out of 20 and the questions scores were 19 out of 30. This score would be higher if we didn’t open the envelope and we completed the race as set out. There is always next year!!!

We are looking forward to the 22nd Annual Children’s Wish Foundation Car Rally!!

21st Annual Children’s Wish Foundation Car Rally

What a beautiful weekend for a car rally. We started out in near Bond Head, Ontario (Hwy 400 & Hwy 88) at 9:18am. With three legs to the race, we were very excited to get started.

I hate to admit it, but we actually got lost on the first leg of the race. We made a wrong turn off the 400 at Royal Victoria  Hospital in Barrie. As one passenger was frustrated and wanted to open the envelope (each envelope tells you where the check point is located) we stopped the car, re-evaluated the situation and tried a new tactic for the heck of it and lo and behold it worked. We were now on the right track again. Even though we were an hour late, WE DIDN’T OPEN THE ENVELOPE, Hurray for us.

In the second leg of the race we were bang on and actually came in second place out of the 58 cars entered. What a proud moment!!

The third leg of the race is always tricky and we are determined every year to avoid opening the envelope. We just had lunch at Webers (http://www.webers.com/), one of the most famous burger places in Ontario and were eager to begin this leg of the race. We were cruising along just fine and were getting very excited until we hit Hwy 11. After four attempts and chatting with other rallyers to compare notes, we decided that  8 hours in the car was enough and the “gluts” needed a stretch. We were 2 hours past our check in time and were getting really “thirsty”,  we decided to open the last envelope.

We were pleasantly surprised that our final destination was at the JW Marriott on Lake Rosseau in Muskoka. http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/yqajw-jw-marriott-the-rosseau-muskoka-resort-and-spa/. I encourage everyone to open this link and check out this resort. We were truly spoiled this year as this resort is beyond anyone’s imagination. This luxurious resort, the beauty of Muskoka and the royal treatment from all staff members made a perfect end to a truly enjoyable day. As a wedding planner, I am very excited to share this location with my clients. I know they will not be disappointed.

We are still waiting on the final numbers as to the rankings (we are hoping to better our fourth from the bottom position from last year) and the total funds raised for this most worthy cause. The volunteers who spend countless hours preparing and running this event are amazing people who are to be commended many times over for their efforts. This is a huge undertaking and once again they all did an excellent job.

Thank you to all and we look forward to the 22nd Annual Children’s Wish Foundation Car Rally.

Children’s Wish Foundation

November 5, 2012 is the 21st Annual Children’s Wish Foundation Car Rally. Tom and I have rallied many years and it’s not only a fun time but it’s an exciting way to help raise funds to grant a child a wish.

Last year the “Pledge” forms came out so we could raise additional monies which was very successful. In 2012, Stirling Wedding Design will put aside 10% of all profits made that year on weddings towards next year’s car rally pledge form. We look forward to a successful year.

Anyone interested in participating in either 2013′s car rally or making a pledge, please feel free to drop me a line at sandy@stirlingweddingdesigns.com.

Our goal this year is to raise $35,000 to grant 4 wishes. Stay tuned for our car rally results!

Go car 31!! (Tom, Sandy, Don, Martha)
